“When you look at Gary Kane’s rock photographs your eyes do the work—but you hear Bruce Springsteen shouting “1-2-3-4! in the middle of “Born to Run” and you feel Keith Richards in your gut, stinging the guitar solo in “Sympathy for the Devil.” Kane wasn’t just close to the stage for some of rock’s greatest concerts. His camera and his heart were in the moment.”
-Chris Smith / NY Magazine
If you had asked me at 17 what I would do with my life, staring down Bruce Springsteen, The Stones and David Bowie through the lens of my Nikon, I would have said you are looking at it.
I've been a journeyman when it comes to photography. Plying my craft at so many different photo subjects. Rock & Roll has been a "time machine" for me. The sound of Springsteen's guitar, or Bowie's voice transports me back to those exhilarating moments of pure and simple ecstasy. Simple without much of a care other than snapping away and screaming the lyrics to my favorite songs at the top of my lungs.
Gary Kane has been a Professional photographer for 40 years. At the age of 18 he was convinced that he would be the world’s greatest Rock & Roll photographer. Over the next few years he attended a number of Pinnacle Rock & Roll shows that he photographed. He didn't have Press Access or an Uncle on the Security team…
He worked his way to the stage and Photographed the band. He used everything in his bag of tricks. “I'm pretty sure it was my Passion (and sometimes 10 bucks) that would get me into the right spot.” Forty Two Years later he has a collection of photographs that capture the electricity of the performances as well as the time period.
